Skills are a lot easier to look at. Max rank you can put into a skill is equal to your character level. If you have any ranks in a class skill you get + 3 to the skill. This is very different from dungeons and dragons, but however easier to calculate. As for prestige classes they have respectfully had their requirements lowered, if you were thus inclined.
you are level 1, and you place 1 rank in perception and in sense motive. Sense motive is a class skill thus you gain + 3 to the skills, your wisdom is 14. Your perception is 1 rank + 2 wis = 3. Your Sense Motive is 1 rank + 2 wis + 3 class skill = 6
you are level 5, and you place 5 ranks in percetion and 5 in sense motive. Sense Motive is a class skill, your wisdom is 14. Your perception is 5 ranks + 2 wis = 7. Your Sense Motive is 5 ranks + 2 wis + 3 class skill = 10.
Each of you begin play with two traits
These are usually used to be able to add class skills to your list of skills or other minor stuff.
You begin play with a purchase limit of up to your average starting gold at 1st according to your class. Any leftover gold you still have left after your purchases you get to keep.
